Neuschwanstein Castle opening hours have two different periods.
Summer (1 Apr - 15 Oct): 9AM - 6PM
Winter (16 Oct - 31 Mar): 10AM - 4PM
Closing dates: Neuschwanstein Castle is closed on December 24th, 25th and 31st and January 1st.
The guided visit lasts approximately 30 minutes and it's the only way to visit the castle.
Neuschwanstein Castle is located in Neuschwansteinstraße 20, 87645 Schwangau, Germany.
Neuschwanstein Castle can only be reached by walking there using the street or the hiking trail, or by taking the bus departing from Hohenschwangau included in the ticket. You can get back to the city on foot or by bus, or with the horse-drawn carriage included in the ticket, when operational.
There is a cafeteria inside the castle, just remember that it only accepts cash as payment. There is also a restaurant a bit down the road, close to the castle, otherwise there is a wide range of places to eat and drink in town.
Neuschwanstein Castle offers accessible bathrooms and an elevator to visitors. There is also a café inside, but there are no lockers, so remember to not bring large items to your visit.
Neuschwanstein Castle is set in the heart of Bavaria, surrounded by plenty of nearby attractions worth exploring.
Just a short walk away, you’ll find Hohenschwangau Castle, the childhood home of King Ludwig II, and the Museum of Bavarian Kings, where you can dive into the fascinating history of the royal family.
Want more scenic views? Take a stroll around Alpsee Lake or hike up to Marienbrücke bridge for the best panoramic shots of Neuschwanstein.
If you’d like to explore beyond the castles, the charming town of Füssen is only a few minutes away, with its medieval old town and Baroque churches.
For nature lovers, the nearby Tegelberg mountain is perfect for hiking or even a cable car ride with breathtaking alpine views!
Tickets can be purchased through the official online ticket shop or trusted third-party vendors. A small booking fee applies, and each visitor, including children, must have a ticket reserved in advance. Online booking is strongly recommended, especially during peak travel seasons.
Skip-the-line entry is available by booking certain guided tours or ticket packages that include priority access. These options are often sold through official and third-party providers. Standard tickets purchased on-site do not include line-skipping privileges.
If online tickets are unavailable, visitors can try to check trusted third-party sellers, or the Hohenschwangau Ticket Center for same-day tickets. Arriving early, ideally before opening, increases the chances of securing entry. Once daily allocations are gone, visiting the castle that day is not possible.
Tickets are not sold directly in Munich. Travelers must either purchase online in advance or buy them in person at the Hohenschwangau Ticket Center. Some Munich-based tours, however, include transportation and pre-arranged tickets as part of the package.
